HOUSING MELLBYSTRAND

 

 

Competition proposal for a residential area and square, with commerce and restaurants, in the center of Mellbystrand. The buildings, the park and the square are all inspired by the coastal nature and get their characteristic elements from Mellbystrand’s existing buildings.

 

We envisage a place with an intricate and fine balance in scales, the surrounding buildings are low and to reduce the scale we have chosen to break up the block into three building types: “Torghuset”, “Kustlängorna” along Kustvägen and “Strandhusen”, which take the form of two light annexes in the middle of the block.

 

The materials are coastal-friendly and honest, a silky concrete with a light sand-colored tone and a wood choice that is inspired by windswept wood from the beach’s rafters and fences.
